Shakespeare's
Sisters Society

Main Benefits Enjoyed by All Members of
Shakespeare's Sisters Society
The Shakespeare's Sisters Society is a limited-capacity group within Retta Collective. It is comprised of women who support women in the literary arts, much like the patronage system of the Elizabethan era. The group is named for Shakespeare's female contemporaries, a few of whom historians now believe may have written some of the works attributed to Shakespeare.
Written Acknowledgment
In keeping with the Elizabethan tradition, patron Sisters are thanked by name in the acknowledgments section of published works by writers they support.
Custom Scarf
Upon assumption of her seat with the Society, each Sister is gifted with a custom scarf emblazoned with African violets, the symbol of Retta Collective. This allows for easy identification of Sisters at the annual soiree, luncheons, gala, and other events.
Signed First-Run Editions
Sisters receive author-autographed first-run editions of the works published by the writers they support. Authors present these to Sisters in person at brunch and luncheon events, if desired.
Masquerade Ball Ticket
Sisters receive a ticket to the annual Retta Collective Masquerade Ball where, among other festivities, identities of the projects and content creators being supported are revealed.
African violet
Each Sister, upon announcement of her Society inclusion, receives a live African violet. This emblem of Retta Collective serves as a living reminder of patronage's enduring nature through generations.
Benefits of Named Seats within
Shakespeare's Sisters Society
Three elevated seats within the limited-capacity Society are named in honor of the women whom historians suspect may have contributed to or written some of the works attributed to William Shakespeare.
Mary Sidney Herbert, Countess of Pembroke
Lady Mary Wroth
Aemilia Bassano Lanyer
In addition to benefits enjoyed by all the Sisters, benefactors inhabiting these seats also receive:
Custom Brooch
Seated Sisters are gifted with a custom brooch with which to affix their scarf. This piece of jewelry allows for the identification of Seated Sisters within the Society and at various events.
Two Masquerade Ball Tickets
Seated Sisters receive two tickets to the annual Retta Collective Masquerade Ball where, among other festivities, identities of the projects and content creators being supported are revealed.
Leadership
Seated Sisters are the de facto leaders of the Society, overseeing selection of projects and writers for patronage and collaborating with the Executive Director of Retta Collective to help ensure the Society achieve maximum impact with its patronage.
